During the setup process, you can choose the features and functions that you will likely be using in QuickBooks Online. No need to worry if you skip one; you can always go back and add it at a later date. Both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop applications offer a good selection of features, though QuickBooks Desktop features tend to be more comprehensive. While people may assume that QuickBooks Online is simply the cloud version of QuickBooks Desktop, in reality, the two products are very different.

Some users may need to get personal support from an accountant or one of QuickBooks’ certified ProAdvisors, both of which involve additional fees, as they would with any accounting application. The closest comparison that can be made would be between QuickBooks Enterprise and QuickBooks Online Advanced. This is for the “Gold” version which should give your business all you need to get started with accounting. This annual subscription can sometimes include a 10% discount for the first year of service. If you’ve created service records because of your company’s offerings, you can track billable and non-billable time as single activities or timesheets. Individual timed activity records are exceptionally thorough, with fields for details like employee name, customer/project, and cost/rate. You can enter start and end times and mark them as billable.

QuickBooks’ mobile app has two tabs at the top of the home screen that let you toggle between the dashboard and recent activity. The dashboard, which is also accessible through the new Today icon at the bottom of the screen, has improved noticeably since last year. They kept transferring me around to various people and every single time they couldn’t find the 941 form I had a question on. I got disconnected three times and they never called back. They also told me that Quickbooks Online 2021 I would have to talk to the IRS at one point. The Enterprise version of QuickBooks Desktop is more powerful and detailed than other QuickBooks products, but it’s also less approachable if you’re new to accounting. The free app is available for download and designed to help all QBOA users manage their QBO clients, no matter what version of QBO they are using. To get the app, go to the QBO Advanced Books via QBOA, click on https://quickbooks-payroll.org/ the gear icon, look for the link for the app to download it, and log in. Additionally, because this is installed software, not a web browser, sessions can be longer, making it easier for accountants to get work done without getting interrupted to sign back in. To expedite product setup, you can choose to use the default chart of accounts that is included in the application.

There are also a few kinks in how the software is organized, and the software can be a little expensive, especially if you upgrade to the Advanced plan for more features and users. However, the sheer number of features and strong accounting still make QuickBooks Online a good option for small businesses.
